Well here’s what it’s all about: Anarchy Alive is my first book, based on my doctoral thesis in Oxford, which will be published next year by Pluto Press. Here is the blurb I’ve done for it, to give you some information and extended superlatives.

Anarchy Alive!: Anti-authoritarian Politics from Practice to Theory
By Uri Gordon

Anarchist politics are at the heart of today’s most vibrant and radical social movements. From Seattle to Genoa to Melbourne, anti-authoritarian groups and networks are spreading an ethos of direct action, non-hierarchical organizing and self-liberation that sets new benchmarks for revolutionary struggle in the 21st century.

Anarchy Alive! is a fascinating, in-depth look at the practice and theory of contemporary anarchism. Uri Gordon draws on seven years of activist experience and on interviews, discussions and a vast selection of recent literature to explore the activities, agendas and cultures shaping today’s explosive anti-authoritarian revival. More than a primer, Anarchy Alive! also addresses some of the most tense debates in the contemporary movement, employing a theory based on practice to provocatively reshape anarchist discussions of leadership, violence, technology and nationalism.

This is the ideal book for anyone looking for a fresh, informed and critical discussion of anarchism, as a mature and dynamic political force in the age of globalisation.

Uri Gordon has been tear-gassed in several major European cities. An Israeli activist and journalist, he wrote his PhD on anarchist politics at Oxford and has organized with the Dissent! network, Indymedia, Peoples’ Global Action and Anarchists Against the Wall.

  1. Sounds like a great idea for a book. I’ll be looking forward to it.
